Prep·Air leverages drone technology to deliver customized meal kits swiftly, catering to dietary preferences with personalized digital companions.

Brief

Prep·Air is an innovative meal kit and food delivery app that partners with Zipline, a drone delivery company, to dramatically reduce delivery times by avoiding traffic. The app tailors meal recommendations to users' dietary preferences with digital companions—Bear for protein diets, Bunny for veggie-based meals, and Koala for picky eaters—each displayed on a digital screen. It delivers only the ingredients users lack, streamlining the cooking process and minimizing waste. Each recipe includes step-by-step instructions, user comments, and reviews, enhancing the overall cooking experience.

Problem

Online food delivery and meal kit services face significant issues such as poor nutritional quality of delivered meals, safety concerns regarding food tampering and spoilage, and substantial environmental impacts due to packaging waste and carbon emissions (MDPI) (BioMed Central). Additionally, meal kits often require inconvenient subscriptions and long delivery times, while many young adults rely on these services due to a lack of cooking skills and the time-consuming nature of meal preparation (MDPI).

Solutions

These solutions collectively enhance the convenience, efficiency, and nutritional quality of home-cooked meals while addressing environmental and logistical challenges:

  • Reducing delivery times and carbon emissions

  • personalized recommendations

  • Efficient ingredient management

  • User engagement and support

Research Method

Secondary Research

Before taking any action, I collected research on key issues with food delivery & meal kit services:

  • Online meals often have low nutritional value, and can contribute to chronic health issues (BioMed Central).

  • The increase in online food deliveries contributes significantly to carbon emissions due to the transportation involved.

  • Many young adults do not cook regularly due to a lack of cooking skills and the perceived time-consuming nature of grocery shopping and meal preparation.

In summary, the research revealed that there are main challenges associated with food delivery and meal kit services, emphasizing the need for solutions that address nutritional quality, food safety, environmental impact, and convenience.
